Tout va très bien

At my internship today, my boss told me that he changed his mind about me doing a series of short broadcasts and now instead wants to do a program about American culture in general featuring all of the American interns.  This came as a surprise to me, because I have yet to meet any of the others.  Then again, this was only my third day on the job.  I have met two other interns though, both of them French.  It was a bit crowded in the station today, as all three of us were there at the same time in the same technician’s booth with Manu.  Cramped, but not unpleasant.

I also booked my last hotel for my vacation, which commences on Saturday.  I am pretty excited.

Also also, after dinner, my host brother and dad were singing a humourous song, which Thibault then showed me on youtube.  It’s from a French comedian and it is called “Tout va très bien, Madame la Marquise”, or “Everything is going very well, Madame the Marquise.”  It begins with a woman calling one of her servants as she is about to return from an extended trip in Monaco, asking for news.  He informs her that everything is going very well, with the exception of a small incident involving the death of her prized stallion.  Distressed, she calls her coachman, who informs her once again everything is going very well, but that her stallion died in the small fire that destroyed her stables.  Alarmed, she calls her chef, who once again assures her that everything is going very well and that the stables were only burned down because the entire chateau was in flames.  At wit’s end, she calls her last servant asking how all of this happened.  He calmly tells her that, upon hearing the news that he was financially ruined, Monsieur le Marquis (her husband) committed suicide, and in doing so knocked over a candelabra, which caught the drapes and engulfed the chateau in flames, while a wind stirred the flames to the stables, thus burning those down and killing her prized stallion.  But other than that, he assures her, everything is going very well.

On déplore un tout petit rien
Elle a périt dans l'incendie
Qui détruisit vos écuries

Mes écuries ont donc brûlé ?

Apprenant qu'il était ruiné
A peine fut- il rev'nu de sa surprise
Qu' Monsieur l'Marquis s'est suicidé
Et c'est en ramassant la pelle
Qu'il renversa toutes les chandelles
Mettant le feu à tout l'château
Qui s'consuma de bas en haut
Le vent souflant sur l'incendie,
Le propageant sur l'écurie
Et c'est ainsi qu'en un moment
On vit périr votre jument
