A great day with the host family and how Nick gets too emotionallly invested in his paper

Today was a good day.  While working on my paper for my regional history class, my host mom brought me a cup of a coffee to help me in my work.  She was making a coffee/dark-chocolate gateau and had leftover coffee and thought I could use some.  She was right and it was very welcome.  A few hours later, I took a break to go on a walk with my host mom and dad.  We went with the family dog, Lulu, to a nearby vineyard and walked along the paths through the expansive fields.  It was very neat and reminded me of the spring walks that I used to take with my own dad through the Verona State Game Area, with the massive rolling hills and the overcast sky.  Afterward, we returned home and had a great lunch and that gateau, which was exquisite.  I then proceeded to work on my paper for the rest of the afternoon.  I have only the conclusion left do finish.

I am writing about a famous writer/political figure from the area named Gaston Crémieux, who was a Jewish republican free-mason who was the leader of the Marseille Commune, which was an uprising in the first days of the Third Republic that, like the simultaneous Parisian Commune, was brutally put down by the government.  Crémieux was voluntarily arrested and was sentenced to death by firing squad along with two others.  The others were later granted reprieves, but Thierry, head of the Republic, refused to pardon Crémieux (despite him deserving it, in my own opinion) despite calls for it from Victor Hugo and from former Interior Minister (and cousin) Adolphe Crémieux.   Thierry wanted to make an example of him.  It was sad, and I had a hard timing writing as I was getting closer to the part where he was executed, because I dreaded putting the words down on the paper, feeling that I could pretend that he was saved as long as I didn’t actually write the words.  I think I’m getting too emotionally invested in this paper…

In a happier vein, I leave for Paris in less than a week!
