Today I started my second week of classes. I handled it like a pro. I must admit, though, that I misestimated the
amount of time that it would take me to get ready this morning, so Thibault
(who had unfortunately decided to commute with me) and I had a bit of a morning
jog to the bus stop. It was at his
suggestion that we do so, but it was downhill the entire way. Even so, we made it to the stop with several
minutes to spare, having worried for nothing.
My classes went well.
I have two hours between each of my three courses on Mondays, and while
that may on the surface appear to be a blessing (which it is in many ways, don’t
get me wrong), it also gives me quite a bit of down time to just cool my heels
on campus. The first break is easily
filled by lunch, but I am thinking about using the second break to buy a
newspaper and thus keep up to date on French state affairs, which currently are
concerned with a big row over business/union legislation. It’s a pretty big deal that’s apparently not
making very much progress (kind of like a certain other democracy’s legislature). The strike last week was due to these
negotiations. It’s pretty interesting.
After I got home, we had a very tasty dinner and spent over
an hour discussing Bob Dylan, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, ACDC, and the
differences between Rock and Rock and Roll.
It was rather fascinating how much my host mom and brother knew about
English-language music. This Friday I am
going to go to a Dvorak concert in town with my host brother and some of his
friends. It should prove interesting.
