Lazy Sunday of Gateau and Ikea (and one more small note about Django, last one, promise)

My other host sister came and joined us for lunch today.  We had a very good fish, the English name of which I do not know, sorry to all of you (Trevor) who are following this blog merely for the description of the food that I am eating.  Earlier, I had helped my host mom to make a cake.  The top layer of the cake was a rich chocolate and the bottom layer was a mix of coffee and a lighter chocolate.  It was incredibly delicious.

After lunch, I was able to finally upload my photos from the tour we took of Montpellier as well as Saint-Guilhem-le-desert.  You will find them on my Facebook account.  If you aren’t my Facebook friend, wait a while and I’ll see about posting them to this blog or elsewhere.  The rest of the afternoon, my activities alternated between doing homework and helping my host brother and dad move newly fabricated Ikea cabinets in the garage.  So… not terribly busy, but that’s what Sunday is all about, no?

One interesting coincidence, it turns out my host sister Marie, the one who visited today, saw Django: Unchained recently as well.  We talked about it for a little bit.  She was not impressed with the dubbing, but did enjoy the movie.  She was interested in my perspective, since I’ve seen both versions, dubbed and undubbed.  One of the nuances that I found most striking was a minor plot note involving Leonardo di Caprio’s character.  In the original English language version, the character is a Francophile, being obsessed with French culture despite not being able to speak the language.  In the French dubbed version of this, they simply swap the culture from France to Spain.  This however makes a major plot-point bombshell delivered by Christoph Waltz’s character lose some of its context with the plot.  If you’ve seen the movie, you know what I’m talking about, if not, never mind.  Just me ranting.

Have a good, everyone!
